If it’s the latter, your iPhone should appear in My Computer shortly after the driver has been installed.
You’ll then see one of two messages: either your iPhone drivers are already up-to-date, or a new driver will be installed.
For most users, this will be C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers, but it will depend on your default install location. From here, you can either search the web for the latest iPhone drivers or direct it to the folder where iPhone drivers are stored within iTunes. Select the Driver tab, and then click “Update Driver”. You can pick up an official Lightning cable from Apple or trusted retailers like Currys PC World for £19. If you’re using a Lightning cable that doesn’t offer data transfer capabilities, that is more than likely why your iPhone isn’t being detected by your PC. Some of the cheaper Lightning cables found online and in small stores only offer the ability to charge the phone with no offer of data transfer.

Don’t panic though, as there are steps that can be taken that’ll get your Windows PC to locate your iPhone. However, as with everything in the world of technology, it doesn’t always work and some users find that their iPhones do not appear in My Computer when plugged in. But what are they to do if they want to access the photos stored on their iPhone? Apple offers a way for users to browse the camera library via My Computer on PC, and when combined with iCloud backups, negates the need to use iTunes.
